It wasn\'t addressed to a specific lady because neither of his wives meet the specification. Any mortal woman would have been offended It was obviously intended to be a joke. He married Louisa Hawkins when he was 26. She died of tuberculosis in 1906 when he was 46. His second wife was Jean Elizabeth Leckie, born in 1874.
